The 2003 NSW u/16 Womens Softball team won the National Championships in Adelaide held 12 - 18 January.

Manly Warringah was well represented by players Michelle, Kiri, Amy and Mikah. Coaching staff members Sharon and Chris.

The team played well over the six round games to qualify for the final series. In the first playoff round NSW def QLD 16 - 5. Then moved to play Victoria for a place in the Grand Final. In a great game of softball NSW narrowly lost 2 - 1. This meant having to play QLD again to earn a spot in the Grand Final.

Queensland started well, however the NSW bats fired and NSW won 6 - 2.

Playing Victoria in the Grand Final was going to be tough with the team losing narrowly to them twice in the Championships.

The game was evenly matched throughout until NSW gained the advantage in the 3rd innings. The team continued to play aggressive softball (even stealing a runner home) to maintain a two run lead going into the top of the 7th innings.

With NSW in the field, a tight defensive effort was required. The Victorians scored one run, but the defense held for NSW to claim a memorable victory 5 - 4 and the Esther Deason Shield.

The Players & coaches enjoyed the victory and the whole experience was very rewarding.

A special mention goes to all supports but particularly the Manly parent, who's vocal support in singing and dancing routines was exceptional
